I still would love to know what happened to their servers and the photos. If you didn’t order by the deadline, you were out of luck. For a little while, they did offer everyone a chance to get a copy of their photos by paying (I believe around $20) to get all photos in the mail by CD. What happened to ? The site was shut down due to financial reasons, likely caused by the 9/11 attacks and the dot com bomb market crash. Here is a screenshot of their site that took everyone by surprise… (It’s hard to believe I lived to see the transition from film to digital as well as the birth of the Internet!)Īnyway, the site took off, grew quickly and on Decemwas forced to shut down due to financial reasons. was launched in 1998 not too long when digital cameras first arrived on the market. The very first popular photo sharing site back in the 90’s was one called Photo Point. If you’re like me, you may have hundreds or even thousands of photos and videos stored on one of the most popular photo sharing sites on the Internet – Flickr.īut if you’re also like me, you’ve been around the Internet since the beginning in the 90’s and you’ve seen some of these companies come and go with little or no warning.
